Angler Privacy Policy
Last updated October 21, 2026
Angler is an RSS reader by Rodmonster LLC. This page explains exactly what leaves your device and why. In short: your feeds, articles and reading history stay on your device unless you connect a server you choose, and the optional AI features send article text to process it, nothing more.
On your device
Your subscriptions, articles, read and starred state, rules, interests and settings are stored only on your device. Angler fetches feeds directly from the websites you subscribe to, the same way a browser would.
Servers you connect
If you connect FreshRSS, Miniflux, Nextcloud News, Tiny Tiny RSS, Feedbin, Feedly, Inoreader or another compatible service, Angler talks only to the server address you enter. Your password or API key is encrypted on your device with the Android Keystore, is never sent anywhere except your server, and is excluded from backups.
Angler AI (optional subscription)
Only if you subscribe to Angler AI, Angler sends the title, feed name and the first part of an article's text to Angler's server (api.rod.monster), which forwards it to TypeSafe (typesafe.ai) to compute rankings, key points, rules and similar features, and uses Cloudflare Workers AI (cloudflare.com) when cloud translation is used. Your interest topics and the text of your rules are sent with ranking and rule requests. Neither TypeSafe nor Cloudflare Workers AI trains models on this data, and Angler's server does not store article text; it keeps only an anonymous install ID, your subscription status and a count of AI credits used. You can turn AI off for any feed in that feed's settings.
While you subscribe to Angler AI, Angler also downloads an AI model (Gemma 4 E2B, about 2.6 GB) from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) and runs it on your phone to write summaries, answers and plain titles, and to translate offline. That download sends nothing about you beyond what any download does, like your IP address, and what the model reads and writes never leaves your phone. The model is deleted from your phone when your subscription ends.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Google Play. Angler's server receives your purchase token from Google to confirm the subscription and its renewal date. It never sees your payment details, name or email address.
Crash reports
When Angler crashes or hits an error, it sends a report (the error, the app's own recent log lines, how the app last closed, app version and device model) to a crash reporting server operated by Rodmonster LLC. Web addresses, email addresses and keys are removed from the log lines before they're sent, and reports contain no articles, feed addresses, account details or other personal information. You can turn crash reporting off in Settings. If you use Report a problem in Settings, your note is sent the same way, even with crash reporting off.
No ads, no tracking
Angler shows no ads and contains no advertising or analytics SDKs. We don't sell or share data.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling Angler removes everything stored on your device. To delete the anonymous subscription record on Angler's server, email us and include your Google Play order number.
